About the event

Join us for a special viewing of the PBS documentary series, Sacred Journeys, depicting the pilgrimage to the Osun-Osogbo festival. The festival of Osun-Osogbo, which takes places every year in Osogbo, Nigeria, celebrates the Orisa of fertility, Osun. The festival renews the contract between humans and the divine: Osun offers grace to the community; in return, it vows to honor her Sacred Grove. This ceremony is part of a rich indigenous Yoruba spiritual tradition that begin in West Africa and has become one of the ten largest religions in the world, with upwards of 100 million practitioners. The documentary will also feature the contributions made by Community Builders HDC's Osun's Village in Miami towards the preservation of Afro-Caribbean arts and culture will also be underscored in the film, helping solidify the city’s status as the international gateway to the Americas. The journey will culminate with the Osun's Village Miami Delegation embarking on a Journey of Faith to the Festival of Osun in Osogbo, Nigeria.

After the viewing an intimate Q.A will take place with widely respected advocate for the promotion and preservation of the African art and culture, High Chief Nathaniel B. Styles, Jr., who serves as founding Executive Director of Osun's Village in Miami, Florida and Executive Director of the Community Builders Holistic Development Corporation featured in PBS documentary series. Well-known across the United States and Nigeria for his longstanding commitment, and illustrious career dedicated to developing sustainable cultural enterprise for indigenous communities around the world, High Chief Styles is an African-American who has devoted his time and energy in uniting Africans through culture. After discovering his love for Nigeria and traveling across all parts of Africa, Europe and the Caribbean, his studies brought him face to face with the rich cultural practices, and he became increasingly passionate about bringing the many religious and cultural traditions to the Diaspora in the U.S.

Osun is the Orisha of love. She can be the sweetest, kindest, most generous person you will ever meet. She is beautiful, charismatic and has great taste in everything. She appreciates the finer things in life (gold especially). She loves to laugh and wants everyone to be happy. You can always tell when she’s around because everyone just gets real silly and starts to giggle. Well, that and everyone seems to get just a little more lovely. She is graceful and loves to dance. Osun represents the things that make life worth living.

Possibly Offerings to Osun.

Her number is 5. Items in denominations of 2 are accepted. Duality/Balance

White is her color in Nigeria, yellow and gold is commonly worn by her Devotees in the Diaspora. She loves the color of brass/gold. Honey, perfumes and the finest things are at Osun's disposal... Pumpkins, honey, money, cinnamon, lemons, coconut, yams, sweet Liquor can be provided as offerings.
